There are many in the world who do not even believe in
God, much less that he has anything to offer us. Even the most sophisticated
of scientific minds have a problem explaining the Universe as one big
gigantic fluke. Something or someone had to create everything, and you
simply cannot get something from nothing.
While some concede that God did create the universe, they
argue that the Bible, God's holy word, is only the product of man's imagination.
While it is true that man wrote the book, doesn't it at least seem possible
that a God who created the universe could get a book written?
Q. How do I know that God loves me?
A. Because He realizes that through our sins we are seperated from Him
for all eternity. That is just God's law, and he does not bend that law
for anyone. However, God sent the world His only son Jesus Christ to pay
the price for OUR sins. He let his own son be riduculed and put to death
in order that we may live forever with Him.
Q. If God loves me so much, why is my life so hard?
A. This is one of the most misunderstood aspects about our relationship
to God. First of all, our lives on Earth are made up of choices we make
and choices that our ancestors have made. We live our life through free
will. God will allow us to be presented with opportunities and challenges
and it is up to us to decide how we deal with them. For instance, no matter
how bad the situation, sometimes it can be a blessing in disquise; a way
for you to strengthen yourself spiritually; a way to make you stronger
so you can minister to others that may also be suffering. God does not
give us any challenge we cannot handle. He longs for you to look to Him
for support and guidance, because He is there waiting for you.
Q. I have a profound mistrust
of organized religion, and I feel that churches are mainly filled with uncaring
hypocrites, why should I become a part of that? A. Well the good
news is, God doesn't want you to be a part of the hypocricy. Actually, even
Jesus rebelled against the organized religions of His days on Earth, which
is partially what led to his crucifixtion. He was very much against what
had become just a series of formal ceremonies and money collection. Simply
put, God wants us to come to Him, and to have a relationship with Him. That
is all He wants. It doesn't matter if you talk to Him while you're in your
car, shopping, hanging out by the pool, or whatever. He doesn't ask you
to make a spectacle of yourself or to pretend to be something you're not.
There are many good churches out there, and there are many churches that
may not be right for you. The important thing is to find one that is comfortable
to you, and teaches God's word from the Bible. As long as they share the
belief that Jesus Christ really lived, he really died for the sins of mankind,
he really rose again, and through Him we are saved, then that is the single
most important aspect that should be followed. Unfortunately there is no
perfect church out there. Many are tainted by their own sense of self-importance.
Each one will have a few people that like to gossip, a few people that try
to act as though they are better than anyone else, etc. etc. That's human
nature. Each of us has our own faults, and it may not be gossiping, but
it is something. No man is without sin, and no man can live a life without
sin. But that is the absolute beauty of God's plan, because even though
we have sinned He still loves us and wants us to be with Him. We just have
to choose to accept that gift.
Q. You mean I can go to this website, say the prayer
at the bottom of the page and I am saved forever? I can go about and do
whatever I want and still go to Heaven when I die? A. Yes and no.
First of all, NO you cannot just recite that prayer, go out and kill someone
then expect to be forgiven. God knows what is in our hearts before we
even begin to recite the prayer. It is what you have in your heart, what
you feel, what you truly believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that will
allow you to spend eternity with God. God knows if you mean it or not.
Q. Is there any sin that is worse than the other?
A. Yes and no. While the 10 commandments are not really listed in order
of importance, they are the foundation of God's law. God presented these
laws to us, and all are equal in weight. However, through God's grace,
all are equally forgivable. While this is obviously not something that
applies to our society (i.e. lying does not receive the same punishment
as murder), in the eyes of God they are equally sinful.
However, there is one sin that is more severe. It's not murder, it's
not adultry, it's probably not anything you have heard of before. The
unpardonable sin is the act of denying God. When you deny God, you will
be seperated from Him for eternity. When God presents His gift of salvation
to you and you turn your back on Him in denial, that is unpardonable.
When you conciously deny God's existence, that is unpardonable.
If you are afraid that you may have done this, or you're worried about
things you have thought or done in the past, then that is a sign that
you have not committed this most severe of acts. For those that have committed
the unpardonable sin have no regrets and no desire to seek the forgiveness
of God. They are spiritually dead, and could care less what God thinks
of them.
Q. What if I have spoken against
Jesus? A. Even those that speak against Jesus can be forgiven:
Luke 12:10 says, "And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man
will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will
not be forgiven."
Matthew 12:31-32 says, "And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will
be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but
anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either
in this age or in the age to come."
We have to remember that even one of Jesus' closest deciples, Peter,
denied him three times, yet Jesus still forgave him.
Q. I have
lashed out at God in anger, can He still forgive me? A. Absolutely
YES! Life is hard, and God loves us no matter what. There are many of us
in this world that carry huge burdens with us. Some of us are angry, and
with very good reason in many cases. Some of us carry that pain and anger
with us each and every waking moment of our lives. It's easy to be angry
at God for the way things have turned out, because sometimes it feels like
He is not there for us. The truth is, God is always there with us. There
are events that unfold in this world that we just don't understand, and
we may never understand. It's ok to be angry and hurt. God feels that pain
for you and He also understands that we don't see the big picture like He
does. God does not expect us to be all-knowing, but He doesn't want you
to turn your back on Him. Be angry, and even vent to Him if you need to.
Just never forget that He loves you, and He is always there for you, especially
when things seem to be their darkest.
